[Updated] Snapchat 'increased number of notifications for contacts joining, story uploads & memories' frustrates many

Snapchat was originally launched more than 10 years ago (2011) becoming one of the most popular messaging apps in countries like the United States.

Snapchat sought to distinguish itself from other similar services in two key ways: the ephemeral messenger and AR filters.

Ephemeral messaging offers a sense of privacy to users since the messages disappear once the recipient reads them. You’ll even get a notification if the other person takes a screenshot of the conversation.

On the other hand, AR filters are a set of filters that notably modify the appearance of your face, in addition to combining digital elements with the image in focus.

However, currently many Snapchat users are feeling that they are receiving a lot more notifications than normal. These notifications are not from messages, but from contacts joining and uploading stories or memories.

Many Snapchat users are reporting a recent increase in the number of notifications they are getting. This is being very annoying and frustrating for many.

In some cases, the notifications are about new contacts joining Snapchat.

Snapchat and Telegram sending notifications about who and who joined the app from my contacts is a useless detail I’m still trying to make meanings of.🤦🏽‍♂️

There are even users that after deleting some contacts, Snapchat sends them a notification that they are on Snapchat to add them back.

We removed all but six people from our Snapchat, because those were the only people weren’t ex co-workers or who we had any idea who they were.
Now Snap keeps sending us notifications that “Random Person is on Snapchat”.

Why??? 🤣

The other annoying notifications Snapchat users are getting are about new stories uploaded by contacts.

i don’t talk to anyone anymore so snapchat has to get creative by sending me notifications like “this person you’ve never messaged just posted on their story!” i don’t care please stop

In some cases the notifications are about old stories that the user has already seen before.

Snapchat see u ain’t got friends and don’t be talkin to nobody and start sending u random notifications 😂. Like did u see this story, do u wanna watch it again?

There is still no official acknowledgment of the issue from the Snapchat team, so it is not yet known if the behavior of the notifications is a bug or a new change.
