New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on July 27, 2022) follows:
If you happen to own a Sonos product, you must be familiar with the Sonos S2 app. The app takes the audio experience to the next level with support for higher resolution audio.
Users can also search for content, control sound, and personalize their experience with features like room groups. It can also help you set alarms, save favorites, group speakers to play them in sync, and much more.
However, users recently complained about problems like sub and surround audio dropping out and audio sync or delay issues.
That said, the developers recently updated the app. But soon after the Sonos S2 v14.12 update, many noticed their True Play settings got reset and their bass output was low (1,2,3,4,5).
Some say the bass on the subwoofer is completely flat and that they need to crank up their volume a lot to make it sound similar to how it was before the update.
I was so ecstatic about sonos improving the arc dialog clarity because at the time, even with speech enhancement the voices were hard to hear. now with the update voices are prominent but the sub is almost non existent. i have truplayed and the eq is level but i have to increase the subs (2x) to +15. before they were on -8. how in the world did one algorithm for the arc completely mess the subwoofers up?

Wondering if anyone else has noticed this. After the 14.12 update I of course redid Trueplay tuning. Like a lot of people here I noticed that the volume had dropped and the bass sounded a little less punchy. Played around with the settings today and redid the Trueplay a bunch of times but things weren’t sounding right, even with the bass pumped (in both EQ and on the sub).

A user on the Sonos community forum said they contacted support and after a while, the support executive said they will escalate the low bass output and True Play resetting issues to the concerned team.
I’ve been on support chat for about 2 hours last night. After all th me troubleshooting steps performed, with no changes to the system, I shared this post with the support representative. According to him, he shared this thread with the development team so they can check. Let’s hope this help us getting the issues sorted out. Fingers crossed.

Let us hope Sonos developers soon find out the root cause of the issues and fix them as soon as possible. When they do, we will be updating this space to reflect the same so make sure you stay tuned.
Update 1 (August 4, 2022)
07:19 pm (IST): A Sonos community manager has acknowledged the issue with low bass. However, they didn’t provide any information as to when it will be resolved.
Please note, we have identified an issue for some users of Arc, Beam and Ray whose configuration includes a Sub (with or without surrounds), who may find their Sub output is lower than desired after performing a new Trueplay tuning. (Source)
Update 2 (November 2, 2022)
02:04 pm (IST): The latest Sonos 2 firmware update that comes with v14.18 reportedly brings a fix for low bass output issue.
