Android 11 paired with MIUI 12 has been an utter disaster for multiple Xiaomi and Poco devices. The update has been linked to performance issues, UI glitches, battery drain, and more.
We previously highlighted how Redmi Note 8 Pro users complained of lag, slow charging, low volume, and Wi-Fi issues following MIUI 12.5 update.
While the MIUI 12.5 update is yet to arrive for the Redmi Note 8, the device recently bagged Android 11 and things went downhill fast afterwards, at least for some users [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8].
One of the issues brought along by the Redmi Note 8 Android 11 update is related to app icon animations, which although isn’t a dealbreaker by any means, seems to be quite important to many given the number of complaints.
hello my redmi note 8 just updated to android 11 – Miui 12.0.2 but the weather and calender app would not show the date and weather degree in icon anymore after update. I cleared data and cache and also factory reset – nothing happened.

The redmi note 8 updated to android 11 miui 12.0.2 but it has too many bugs. When you return and close default apps there is no animation anymore. Weather and Calendar are not the same before in android 10.

As clear from the above, the fancy app closing animations have disappeared now, making the app icons look kind of lifeless. They were present on Android 10.
But that’s not all. Various apps like Clock, Calendar, and Weather, that earlier displayed important information no longer do so.
For example, the icon for the Weather app earlier displayed the current temperature for the set location. It has now been replaced by static clouds.
Users have reportedly already tried the basic stuff like clearing data and cache for the concerned apps in order to fix the problem. Some have even gone as far as factory resetting their device but to no avail.
This confirms that the removal of the app icon animations from the Android 11 update for the Redmi Note 8 is in fact deliberate. The reason for this is unknown but we suspect it’s to improve performance.
Nonetheless, it is possible that this is only a temporary measure and that the upcoming MIUI 12.5 update for the device will add the feature back.
Redmi Note 8 Android 11 battery drain and performance issues
There have also been multiple reports [1, 2, 3, 4, 5] of abnormal battery drain and performance issues like lags and sluggishness following the Android 11 update.
My redmi note 8 keeps draining on its own whenever I leave idle for long especially overnight..please is there any solution for this?

The animation are smooth and the UI isn’t the problem but gaming performance has reduced a lot literally while playing games I am getting beep sounds and the game suddenly stops and goes onto 1fps.

We are yet to come across any official acknowledgment on the matter. However, it is likely that the upcoming MIUI 12.5 update will be addressing most of these problems. After all, it is an optimization-focused update.
The Chinese variant of the Redmi Note 8 has already received it widely so it’s about time that the Global variant would get it soon as well. For now, stay tuned to our Xiaomi MIUI 12.5 update tracker.
