New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…
Original story (published on September 07, 2021) follows:
Android 12 is undoubtedly one of the most significant updates in Android’s history. It refreshes the now dated-looking Material Design 2 by replacing it with Material You.
For the uninitiated, Material You is an updated version of Google’s Material Design that was introduced back in 2014 with Android Lollipop. It brings along dynamic wallpaper-based theming, re-designed elements, rounder corners, and much more.
But of course, most of these changes will not be making it directly to Xiaomi and Poco devices since they run Xiaomi’s own custom Android skin called MIUI.
MIUI will have to be updated with the new design guidelines by Google and there hasn’t been any hint of that happening any time soon.
Still, the design stuff comes much later. It is preceded by developing and testing the actual Android base for eligible devices in order to achieve full functionality and stability.
And Xiaomi has been doing just that for months now. It has even become one of the first OEMs to make Android 12 beta builds layered with their own Android skin atop available for some devices.
Currently, the Chinese OEM is testing Android 12 on multiple devices both internally as well as via the closed beta testing process. New devices get keep getting added to the list and the latest ones to join have been given below.
– Xiaomi 11T Pro
– Redmi Note 10 Pro
– Redmi Note 10 Pro Max
– Redmi 10
– Mi 11 Lite 4G
– Mi 11 Lite NE
Yeah, you read that right. Both Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite and Redmi Note 10 Pro/Pro Max have now joined Android 12 internal testing thus indicating that the devices should be getting stable Android 12 early.
But that’s not all. The Xiaomi 11T Pro, Redmi 10, and Mi 11 Lite NE have been added as well to Android 12 internal testing pointing towards their imminent release.
No download links for any builds can be expected at this early stage since the testing is being conducted by the devs themselves.
However, the devices should soon be moved to closed beta testing followed by public beta testing, and that’s when Chinese builds will start pouring in.
For now, stay tuned to our dedicated Xiaomi Android 12 update tracker as we will be updating it with more interesting developments related to devices like the Redmi Note 10 Pro series, Mi 11 Lite 4G and more as they transpire.
