Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, Mi 11 Pro, Mi 11, & Redmi K40 Pro (Mi 11X Pro) Chinese closed beta temporarily suspended to make way for Android 12

Android 12 is nearing the end of its beta development and has now inched to a stable release closer than ever before.

Sure, the update looked pretty much like Android 11 when the first developer preview went live. But fast forward today and Android 12 has turned out to be one of the most significant updates in quite a long time.

The current latest version is Android 12 beta 4.1 and has been released for all Pixel devices eligible for Android 12.

However, for the past few years, other OEMs have been able to participate in the beta testing process for their devices as well, thus speeding up the Android version rollout process.

One of such is Xiaomi that started with having the most non-Google devices in Android 12 Beta 1 and has now even become one of the first OEMs to make available Android 12 beta builds layered with their own Android skin atop.

The builds in question are for the Mi 11 Ultra/Pro, Mi 11, Redmi K40 Pro (Mi 11X Pro). However, these were a part of the closed beta program and there hasn’t been any sign of a public beta. At least until now.

For the uninitiated, Xiaomi tests all builds in China prior to a global release through the public beta program. Anyone from China can sign up for these after meeting a minimal set of requirements.

The latest beta builds released through this program have a version of 21.9.3/21.9.4 and their release notes mention the following:

Due to the major version upgrade of Android, Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, Mi 11 Pro, Mi 11, Redmi K40 Pro will be temporarily suspended from September 6, 2021. Thank you for your understanding.

From this, it is pretty clear that the major version upgrade in question is Android 12 which should be making it to the public beta branch pretty soon after over a month of internal and closed beta testing.

This means that the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, Mi 11 Pro, Mi 11, and Redmi K40 Pro (Mi 11X Pro) should be receiving regular Chinese Android 12 builds soon.

Of course, global users would still have to wait a while to get a taste of Android 12. But enthusiasts willing to unlock the bootloaders of their devices and flash the Chinese beta builds can still try the public beta builds when they go live.
