Original story (published on August 31, 2021) follows:

Google should be rolling out the stable version of Android 12 update in the next few weeks, most likely before September concludes.

With almost no time left, developers are putting in place their final touches. And this means there’s little to no room left for major bugs and problems to be sneaking through to the latest Android 12 beta versions.

But just like any other software, having no bugs is almost impossible, especially the kind that may seem minor yet annoying to deal with.

We’ve recently highlighted such bugs, among them Google Play System updating to September 1 and then reverting to May 1, installing updates to the Carrier Services app, Phone app crash loop when using a Bluetooth headset, and so on.

Some of the bugs above came with the previous beta 4 update, which also happens to be the source of the latest Android 12 broken volume controls issue when casting.

No matter which audio or video app I use to cast content to my Chromecast or my smart speaker. The volume indicator does not show. The volume keeps going up or down regardless, meaning I can still control volumen at distance. Volume slider was completely functional in Beta 3

Again, going by these user reports, this one seemingly began in early August when Android 12 beta 4 arrived and, according to even more recent reports, has persisted with beta 4.1.

Users say that when casting from apps like YouTube Music, hitting down or up on the volume rocker yields nothing from the device. Normally, the volume control UI should pop up, a feature that was functional in beta 3.

The issue persists even when music is paused and the volume controls simply fail to show up. In short, volume controls break while cast in on but revert to normal when not casting.

On the brighter side, the bug has been captured in the official Issue Tracker and further escalated to Google developers, who should hopefully address it in the next Android 12 build.

We have passed this to the development team and will update this issue with more information as it becomes available.

With that being said, stay tuned to our dedicated Google Pixel Android 12 bugs and issues tracker as we will be updating it with further developments on the annoying Android 12 volume controls issue when casting and others.

Update 1 (September 09)

01:25 pm (IST): Android 12 Beta 5 is out for users of Google Pixel devices. However, reports from users who have updated their devices indicate that the casting volume issue still persists.
