Apple is in its advanced stages of development and testing for the upcoming new version of iOS, iOS 15, and iPadOS 15. We have been closely following the progress and you might want to check out our iOS 15/iPadOS 15 tracker.

As expected, the Beta builds are bound to have a few bugs and issues here and there as the company works on baking in the new features and streamlining them, and this has been true throughout the iOS 15 Beta program.

One of the hyped features of the upcoming version of iOS is the Live Text function, a function that is set to work like Google Lens, only better as it’ll be deeply integrated into the Apple ecosystem.

However, this, like a few other iOS 15 features, doesn’t seem to be properly baked right now. Consequently, a section of users on the latest iOS 15 beta 7 who have enabled this function are facing a rather annoying issue.

According to these persons, iOS 15 Live Text gets invoked when all they want to do is double tap to zoom into their photos.

iOS 15 Double tapped to zoom, Live Text thinks I’m trying to look up a series of 0’s. Not necessarily a “bug.” Just slightly funny to me.

I’m honestly really annoyed about how you can’t double tap to zoom on practically any picture on iOS 15 Like, live text is great, but Mby we should just be able to tap-and-hold on text for it to get highlighted? Being able to zoom normally is way more important than some text on a photo imo – it should at least be easer to do the first than the latter…

As expected, this issue arises when users have the Live Text feature turned on. It, therefore, goes without saying that one of the most effective workarounds would be to turn off the Live Text feature unless you need to use it.

As a workaround, you can just disable live text until you need to use it.

Also worth noting is that there doesn’t seem to be a setting to disable Live Text in the Photos app. That said, affected users can disable it for the camera.

iPhone

Admittedly, this is a less than ideal situation as muscle memory dictates that double tap on an image on iOS involves the double-tap to zoom feature. As such, Apple does need to do some work to streamline and optimize the Live Text feature in the stable release of iOS 15.
