The huge success that Poco enjoys today can largely be owed to its very first device – the Poco F1.

The device is also sold as the Pocophone F1 in some markets and continues to be a legend to this day, thanks to being one of the only to pack a flagship Snapdragon processor at its price point.

However, the phone yesterday celebrated its third birthday, thus signalling the end of its software update support life.

Xiaomi/Poco doesn’t really have a definitive scheme for the number of updates it gives out. But considering that the Poco F1’s last update was released back in February, it is safe to assume that it indeed is its final.

The update had brought along the December security patch and was an Android 10-based MIUI 12 build.

Poco F1 owners had already accepted that their phone would never be getting the Android 11 update, but they did have hopes for MIUI 12.5.

These hopes were fed by various rumors and statements from community moderators saying that the Poco F1 might be eligible for the update. Xiaomi GM Alvin Tse had also said that he was “not sure” about MIUI 12.5.

But that was several months ago. Fast forward to now and the MIUI 12.5 update for the Poco F1 seems more unlikely than ever before. After all, most of the devices, including several budget ones, have already been treated to the MIUI version.

So what now? Well, fortunately, the Poco F1 has an exceptionally active custom ROM developer community that churns out new ROMs faster than you can chug a glass of water.

Some of these ROMs include ShapeShiftOS, CorvusOS, Pixel Experience, RevengeOS, DerpFest, and many, many more. To know more about these, you will want to head over to the “Pocophone F1 | UPDATES” Telegram channel.

If you’ve never used a custom ROM before, then the best one to start your venture with would be the Pixel Experience ROM. Its complete installation instructions can be found here.

However, if you are more of a stock ROM person, then you can also try out the MIUI 12.6 beta port ROM for the Poco F1. It is based on Android 11 and is apparently bugless.

That said, if you are still hopeful about the MIUI 12.5 update for the Poco/Pocophone F1, then stay tuned to our dedicated Poco MIUI 12.5 update tracker.
