PUBG, as most of you may be aware, is one of the most popular online multiplayer games that has been developed by PUBG Corporation. In fact, it was recently revealed that PUBG Mobile has over 100 million monthly active users, which excludes players in China.
Well that’s a huge user base, isn’t it?
But as is usually the case with other popular games, quite often PUBG hits the headlines for bugs/issues plaguing the game and service going down or not working. One such case has now surfaced again.
If you are on an Xbox or PS4 console and are wondering why PUBG (Player Unknown’s Battle Ground) game is down for you, then we have the information you are looking for.
Relax, you are not the only one affected by this outage as the game servers have entered a planned downtime for a couple of hours. What’s appeasing is that PUBG support Twitter handle officially announced this downtime sometime ago, as well as the reason behind it.
Here’s what PUBG support said while informing users regarding this on micro-blogging site Twitter:
Xbox & PS4 Players: Live servers will enter a 2-hour maintenance on May 21 12AM PDT / 9AM CEST. During this time, we will be distributing Survival Title System Beta Season 1 rewards.

PUBG servers are down today due to maintenance. Here’s what the company announced about this maintenance a few hours ago:

PUBG servers are reportedly down at the moment. We’re seeing a string of complaints from users on social media platforms (see here) that say they are getting ‘Servers are too busy at the moment’ notification.

Thanks to community feedback, we’re increasing AR spawns on Erangel & Miramar by 20% upon completion of maintenance.
We’re also deploying a bug fix with maintenance to resolve a visual issue with skins for the Tommy Gun.

Sadly, the Tommy Gun skins issue wasn’t fixed with this update.
The previously announced visual fix for Tommy Gun skins was not applied during maintenance and will be resolved in a future update.
Update 82 (Jan 30)
Live server maintenance has begun for console players and is expected to last for 3 hours.
Console Players: Live servers will undergo maintenance for 3 hours on January 29 10PM PST / January 30 7AM CET to apply Update 6.1.
Once complete, the new 2×2 Karakin, Sticky Bombs, Motor Gliders, Dynamic Resolution and more will be available!

PUBG support has confirmed a new maintenance today, which is expected to last 4 hours.
PC Players: Maintenance has now started and is expected to last 4 hours.
Bug Fixes:
– Medieval Helmet skin not visible when worn by female characters
– Players able to prone in shallow water
– Visual issue with certain pants skins
– Inconsistent icon sizes in the lobby

Even the outage alert service Down Detector says PUBG servers are encountering issues (see here and here). The official PUBG live status page (linked below), however, doesn’t show any outage at the moment.

Turns out it’s an issue at Microsoft’s end as Xbox Support has acknowledged the problem on Twitter.

Console Players: Starting on March 19 1pm AEDT, we will be conducting a server merge test on a new server location to help improve the overall health of matchmaking in OC & AS regions.

PC Players: Live servers will enter maintenance for 4 hours starting Mar 24 5:30pm PDT / Mar 25 9:30am KST / Mar 25 00:30 UTC.
Alongside routine backend stability improvements, some bug fixes will also be applied. Full details will be shared once maintenance begins.
Maintenance is also lined up for Console players for March 25 with a downtime of about 2 hours.
Console Players: Live servers will undergo maintenance for 2 hours on March 25 10pm PDT/March 26 6am CET to apply Update 6.3.
Once complete, the Panzerfaust, weapon balance changes, Esports Mode, and more will be available.

Following issues are being addressed during the current maintenance:
Fixed the following minor issues:
– ADS view obscured with certain weapons
– Unable to open mission list in some cases
– Visual issue with “Victory Dance 14” emote
– Panzerfaust warhead wouldn’t explode when shot mid air
– DBS and M249 spawned without ammunition on Karakin
– Unable to complete Panzerfaust missions which finishing DBNO enemies or kill backblasted enemies
– Unable to complete Sticky Bomb missions if the enemy was DBNO
– Weapon would remain in the character’s hand when bandaging

Incoming is a maintenance alert for PUBG Lite with a downtime of about 5 hours.
On April 16, 2020, the PUBG LITE servers will be under maintenance for an update.
Server maintenance will be held for 5 hours from 3:00AM ~ 8:00AM (UTC).

Incoming is aalert for the PC players wherein the live servers will undergo a maintenece of about 7 hours for the deployment of the update v7.1.

In case you’re wondering why PUBG isn’t working on your console, you’re not the only one. PUBG support did confirm that the live servers will undergo maintenance for approximately 6 hours on June 9 9:00 pm PDT/June 10 6:00 am CEST.
Hence, you’ll have to wait a bit to get that Chicken Dinner again.

Update 107 (June 11, 2021)
PUBG support confirmed that they’ll be releasing a small update to resolve a bug that sometimes causes reward mismatch to occur when opening Contraband Crates. This has also resulted in a bit of downtime which has now been extended by 30 minutes.

Update 108 (August 07, 2021)
08:53 am (IST): Fresh reports on the web indicate that PUBG servers have again gone down as many users from North America have taken to Twitter to report that they aren’t able to play the game.
So, PUBG servers are down… I thought my game was bugged so I deleted and re installed. And it’s just hit me imma have to re-do all my settings. Mannn, it took me weeks to fine tune all my sense’s. (Source)

The Xbox Status page also indicates that the team is aware of the problem and the team is working to resolve it.
Apart from that, Downdetector also shows a spike in the number of reports from people claiming that they’re having issues with the service.
12:48 pm (IST): PUBG Support has confirmed that the issue should now be resolved for all. However, the team will continue to keep an eye out for related problems.
