MIUI 12 and even MIUI 12.5 are a hit or miss when it comes to performance on most of the budget devices from Xiaomi and Poco. Heck, some devices with flagship processors like the Poco X3 Pro aren’t spared either.

While MIUI 12 was showing signs of improvements a few months back due to optimization updates, Android 11 came into the picture and pulled Xiaomi back to square one.

With mounting pressure on Xiaomi to sort out the performance issues plaguing most of its devices, the company was forced to take some extreme steps, the most notable being the temporary removal of several inessential features from MIUI.

One of these ‘inessential’ features was Gaussian blurring behind the Control Center which was replaced with an ugly grey background. The blur effect was reportedly quite heavy on the GPU and was thus declared as the main culprit behind the lag.

Unfortunately, most users observed little improvement in fluidity following the removal, which led them to demand the restoration of Gaussian blur in the Control Center.

MIUI 12.5 does restore blur on some devices like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 but it’s unclear if other budget devices will be treated similarly.

Moreover, it may still take up to a couple of months for the update to trickle down to all of the budget devices, so there’s still a need for a method that will get rid of the loathsome grey background and restore the Control Center to its full glory.

Thankfully, a YouTuber has now shared a rather easy way to bring back Gaussian blur to the MIUI 12/12.5 Control Center using a few easy steps without the need for rooting the device. It will work on any Xiaomi or Poco device so all are welcome.

The method is simple. All you need to do first is download the SetEdit app from the Play Store.

Next, open the app and look for the “deviceLevelList” parameter within. Clicking it will reveal its values that will read something like “v:1,c:2,g:1”. These should be replaced with “v:1,c:3,g:3” by clicking the “EDIT VALUE” button.

Then just save the changes and reboot your device to enjoy the new look of your MIUI 12/12.5 Control Center with the blur enabled and all.

Still, unclear? Just refer to the video given below:

If the option to enable the new Control Center is missing completely, then refer to this article for a way to enable it first. And if you’re facing lags after enabling the new Control Center, then you would want to check this out.
