Apple Wallet is one of the most used digital wallets across the globe. However, it is causing a major problem for iOS and Apple Watch users.
As per multiple reports, the Apple Wallet app is draining too much battery on the iPhone and Apple Watch.
It seems the issue is widespread and users started noticing the battery drain of their iOS devices after the iOS 14.5 update.
While the issue is still present after the update to iOS 14.6, it is unclear whether the upcoming iOS 14.7 will address the same or not.
Also, users have pointed out that the battery on their iPhone and Apple Watch started draining after they enabled the Apple Card Family Sharing feature in the Wallet app.
It seems the said feature might be the actual culprit behind the rapid battery drain but this is still based on speculation.
This is because a user pointed out that switching off the Precise Tracking feature resolved the issue for them.
Speculating that perhaps the precise location tracking is continuing to track after a purchase…Experimented turning off Precise Tracking several days ago, in the iPhone settings/privacy/location tracking/Wallet; and no battery drain noticed when purchases made with the Apple Watch. Turned it back on today for an Apple Watch purchase and lost 49% iPhone battery with 1 min. use due to Wallet app in 5 hours!

While resetting the iPhone and restoring it through an iTunes backup is also helping some, it is simply a temporary workaround as the problem comes back after some time.
I did a full wipe and restore that fixed things for a while. The behavior is now back — huge battery consumption associated with Wallet. Very frustrating.

On the other hand, a user said that Apple was aware of the said issue and after talking to Apple Support it was also fixed for them probably from the back end.
It’s finally fixed! It’s finally fixed! After talking to Apple support Apple knows there was an issue and they finally fixed the wallet draining issue. Both of our phones and watches have 50% power at the end of the day. It’s about **** time

However, it is unclear whether Apple actually isolated the problem or not as reports regarding the same are still pooling in.
Another possible workaround for this issue could be switching off the affected iPhone unit then restarting it back after 10 minutes. While this is not a permanent workaround, it appears to be solving the problem for many.
Hopefully, Apple looks into the matter and soon releases a proper fix for the said issue as it is still inconveniencing many.
That said, we will report back with more details as and when new information becomes available so stay tuned.
