Nokia’s comeback to the mobile industry has been a success for the most part, all thanks to HMD Global. The Finnish company that now has the rights to Nokia trademarks, did ride on the nostalgia effect to bring back the brand and for the most part, this has worked.

A rather simple naming scheme, a simple, unadulterated version of Android in the form of Android One and the decision to focus on the rather vibrant entry-mid range segment of the market, seem to have paid off.

So far, we’ve seen reincarnation of some of the most popular Nokia devices in history, from the likes of the Nokia 3310, Nokia C1 and even the ‘Banana Phone’ (Nokia 8110).

At MWC 2018, Nokia treated us to one of the most unexpected comebacks with the Nokia 8 Sirocco, a device that meant to pay tribute to the company’s premium 8800 series from back in the early to mid aughts.

Nokia 8 Sirocco was a solid buy at the time as it packed the capable Snapdragon 835 under the hood and a premium fit and finish of steel and glass, a build quality Nokia was long known for, while still undercutting the likes of the iPhone 8 in price.

But that was then and now, the Nokia 8 Sirocco which came with Android 8 out of the box has since bagged its 2 promised Android version upgrades to now run on Android 10.

This was the phone’s final Android version update and Android 11 was never in the picture, at least not officially. Now, the device is on its way out of the lineup.

New reports now suggest that the Nokia 8 Sirocco has reached its End-of-life and as such, there will be no more updates to this gem of a device.

In a message posted in an unofficial Nokia OTA group on Telegram, it is alleged that the Nokia 8 Sirocco has reached its end of life and there won’t be any more updates for it. How true these claims are remains to be seen.

Also announced alongside this post is the alleged final OTA for the Nokia 8 Sirocco. This update brings to these devices the May 2021 security patch and bears software version number A1N-514L-0-00WW-B01. Below is the download link.

  • Device: Nokia 8 Sirocco
  • Codename: Avenger
  • Channel: Global Stable
  • Version: A1N-514L-0-00WW-B01
  • Android: 10
    • Type: Recovery

To install this build, you must first ensure that you’re running build 00WW_5_14I on your Sirocco.

If this indeed is the final official OTA update for the Nokia 8 Sirocco, the custom ROM community is the next logical destination for these device owners.

We shall continue to keep an eye on the developer community and update as and when we get any meaningful custom ROMs development projects for this device so stay tuned.
