Original story (published on June 23, 2021) follows:

Not much is currently known about Xiaomi’s next big MIUI update. However, judging from a previous ‘leak’, MIUI 13 is indeed confirmed to be under development.

The leak in question was brought along with the latest version of the MIUI Cleaner app, the changelog of which revealed that the app is being adapted to MIUI 13.

MIUI 13 is said to be arriving on every Xiaomi and Poco device that is currently running or is at least eligible for Android 11. This includes most of the devices released around the same time as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8.

While we only have had itsy bitsy hints of the upcoming update to date, the latest version of the Mi File Manager app that went live in China yesterday, has now given a proper peek for the first time into what apps on MIUI 13 will look and feel like.

The app carries a version number of 4.3.0.2 and introduces a re-designed home screen complete with new icons and an updated folder UI.

You also get some pretty cool new animations upon changing the sort setting of the storage view. The folders and files now get re-aligned in a mesmerizing manner – almost as if they’re lively little physical objects.

This comes when the current latest version of the global Mi File Manager (which is available on the Play Store for all) remains in dire need of a UI refresh. Its current state makes it look like something straight out of the now deprecated MIUI 10.

It is unclear when the MIUI 13 File Manager v4.3.0.2 will be making it to the global branch of MIUI or whether it will be released along with MIUI 12.5 at all.

You can still give it a try by downloading it from this link, that is, if it indeed is compatible with the global variant of MIUI.

That said, the Mi File Manager app isn’t the only app that has already been prepped for MIUI 13, as it is joined with the Mi Drive utility.

The application has been updated to match the interface of the MIUI File Manager, thus indicating that other system apps will perhaps in time get similar UI updates.
