The Poco X2 was released early last year but remains a pretty compelling buy even today. When pitched against the likes of the recently launched Redmi Note 10 Pro, one wouldn’t really be able to find any shortcomings in the device.

Out of the entirety of the Poco X2’s spec sheet, the one thing that stands out the most is its rear camera. It shoots some really decent photos at a maximum resolution of 64 megapixels.

However, several users [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10] have been unable to do that recently seemingly due to bugs in the MIUI Camera app. The app tends to freeze pretty often or displays a black screen.

I am using poco x2, before some time I open my camera, and it’s showing a blank screen, the selfie camera is working fine but the main camera is not working, until yesterday it was working fine but I don’t know why it’s not working today I also not dropped my phone.

From yesterday my poco x2 rear camera is not working… When I’m on the camera application, it’s showing a black blank screen. But my front camera is working perfectly. I had done camera reset, clear cache and data, and factory reset also…then also the same situation.

There are also several reports of a ‘Can’t connect to camera’ error message upon opening up the camera app. Trying to access the macro or the ultra-wide camera is also fruitless for most of the facers of such issues as it causes the app to hang.

A few users did observe though that the Poco X2 camera issues are not reproducible on another camera app like GCam (Google Camera).

From this, it can be easily established that the issues are all indeed software-related, so that comes as a relief.

Nonetheless, it is worth mentioning here that the Poco X3 NFC has been suffering from some pretty similar issues as well. The matter did get escalated to the R&D but a fix is yet to roll out.

The situation is worse with the Poco X2 though since there is still no trace of any official acknowledgment. Hence, you would want to instead rely on Google Camera till Poco sorts this mess out.

Update 1 (June 10)

12:25 pm (IST): Weirdly, Xiaomi/Poco service centers reportedly claim that the issue can only be fixed through a motherboard replacement and that it costs 10,000 INR, which isn’t a small amount by any means.

Also, new complaints have only continued flowing in proving that nothing has been done to address the problem.

Update 2 (June 11)

10:37 pm (IST): Poco Support now says that they’re aware of the camera issues plaguing the Poco X2 and have stated the following:

We have come across a few intermittent issues impacting the usage of the rear camera. We are aware of this and the below steps may help resolve the issue: 1. Clean Camera App data: Open Settings- Search Manage apps – Search Camera – Clear data-Clear all data – Ok

Update 3 (June 16)

10:37 pm (IST): Poco has now issued an official statement on the matter. While it is pretty lenghty, it can be summarized as follows:

Just clear all data for the Camera app through its app info page, and if the issue persists, then report it through the Services & Feedback app. Next, take the phone to the nearest Poco service center along with the generated feedback ID to get it fixed.
