New updates are being added to the bottom of the story…
Original story (from June 06, 2021) follows:
Google Chrome 91 update came out pretty recently for all supported platforms but users are not linking it at all.
This is simply because the latest Chrome update removed several flags which allowed them to customize the web browser as per their requirements.
Among them, the flags to disable Chrome Tab Groups or Grid-veiw, Search tabs, Reading list, Tab Hover Cards, and more.
While removal of the experimental flags is a pretty basic practice that Google follows, not providing an alternative to users who are not in favor of the Tab Group/Grid view feature despite them complaining for months is what has left many disappointed.
That’s why, Google Chrome users are particularly furious over the removal of the Tab Groups or Grid-view flags.
If anyone figures out how to disable group tabs and the grid layout on android, let me know please.

Hello, A few weeks back I disabled the Tab Search feature from chrome://flags/#enable-tab-search , and when I opened my computer today I saw the tab search button was there still. I know I disabled it in the flags area, but it’s still there. How do I get rid of it?

The Chrome flags are not particularly meant for customization and fall under the experimental settings category. It is, however, tough to explain it to regular users who used them to customize the web browser.
There are multiple threads on platforms like Reddit where users are complaining about the said removal. Also, some users even took to the Chromium bug tracker stating that disabling Tab Groups should be allowed.
A couple of petitions are also doing the rounds on Change.org where users are demanding the removal of Tab Groups.
It is only natural of users to feel like this as the web browser does not allow much customization. Moreover, Google has been overly quiet on the matter since the feature was added, which is further adding to users’ misery.
So, should the tech giant bring back the flags to disable Tab Groups/Grid-view or provide similar, more accessible customization options to users?
Do share your opinion on the same either by dropping a comment or by casting your vote on the Twitter poll below. That said, we will be back with the poll results by next week.
