The Apple TV offers a pretty compelling proposition for users that are invested in the whole Apple ecosystem owing to just how seamlessly it integrates with the other i-Products.
YouTube, on the other hand, is one of the most popular video streaming platforms on the internet today and almost all streaming boxes support this Google-owned service.
Recently, we saw reports of YouTube rolling out a new, redesigned app for the Apple TV. The major redesign update to the YouTube application came to Apple TV devices with tvOS.
Along with the redesign, this update brought with it the latest YouTube interface that Google uses on other platforms to Apple’s streaming box, nearly a year after it first came to Google TV.
Needless to say, users of the Apple TV haven’t exactly warmed up to this new update to the YouTube app, many pointing out issues they have with the new update.
Now, it is coming to light that there might be a much more dire issue afflicting these users, more than just a redesign that they’re not warming up to.
According to reports, the new YouTube app for the Apple TV doesn’t refresh the homepage as frequent as it probably should. This means that Apple TV users are stuck with old recommended videos on their home screens.

– Recommendations are broken
– Play button broken
– Can’t reload home pageCan we go back to not updating apps instead?

Their AppleTV UX has been degrading for a while. I think the latest does have a better IA, but have lost critical functionality without reason. E.g. even refreshing recommendations is difficult/ impossible now.

Ugh I hate the new @YouTube design for the Apple TV! I keeps showing me the same recommendations over and over, nothing new! It’s so ugly!

The web, and community forums are dotted with reports (1,2,3,4,5) from users of the Apple TV, all reporting being unable to refresh the YouTube recommendations.
In response to one of these user complaints, YouTube advices affected users to go through the basic troubleshooting procedures of restarting their devices, logging out of YouTube and logging back in.
we recommend signing out and signing back in to your YouTube account or restarting your Apple TV to refresh the Recommendations. Let us know how that goes.

However, reports still indicate that these steps are still inadequate in fixing this issue as users are facing even more issues with the new YouTube app on their Apple TV.
For now though, this is all the solace these affected users have, at least until the issue is properly addressed. We shall continue to keep an eye on this and update as and when we get more info so stay tuned to PiunikaWeb.
