Asus ROG Phone 5 is the latest entry in OEM’s gaming flagship series known as Republic of Gamers. The device packs some serious hardware which is run by Android 11-based ROG UI.

While many gamers are already using and liking the ROG Phone 5, it has also been inconveniencing some users lately.

As per several reports, the Steady charging feature on Asus ROG Phone 5 is not working for some users. The Steady charging feature basically disables the 60W fast charging on the device in question.

The said feature charges the phone at 30W whereas the Ultra steady option further reduces the wattage to 18W when enabled.

User reports outline that their ROG Phone 5 is charging faster even when the Steady or Ultra steady charging feature is enabled.

However, a ZenTalk community moderator has shed some light on the matter which more or less explains what might be happening with affected users.

It seems that the fast chaging (60W) and Steady charging features are depicted by the same icon (double flash) in the status bar. The moderator has highlighted this to the development team requesting a different icon for Steady charging to dissolve the confusion.

Also, the moderator has asked users of the ROG Phone 5 to compare charging results with the said feature enabled and disabled on apps like Ampere, AccuBattery, or 3C Battery Manager.

It must be noted that the device battery should be below 20% when comparing the fast and steady charging to get accurate results. However, the Ultra steady charging feature needs to enabled in case the battery is charged at or above 50% for the same.

This further indicates that there might not be any issue with the Steady charging feature on the device in question. However, some user reports on the ZenTalk community thread suggest otherwise.

Moreover, it is unclear whether this issue is related to software or hardware as the moderator did not exactly acknowledge the problem as either.

Hopefully, the OEM takes the suggestion given by the moderator into account so that users does not get confused.

That said, we will report back with more details as and when we get new information on the matter so stay tuned.
