New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on December 09, 2020) follows:

Google replaced the entry-level Home Mini with the Nest Mini back in 2019 which brought a few key improvements including better sound output.

The smart home speaker comes equipped with 802.11b/g/n/ac (2.4 GHz/5 GHz) Wi-Fi connectivity support and thus should work fine on most modern Wi-Fi routers.

But as buyers began getting their hands on the Google Nest Mini, many of them started noticing that the Wi-Fi kept getting disconnected automatically.

Naturally, this left users frustrated and thus began reporting about the problem on various social platforms as well as on Google’s support forums which now has over 1500 comments on it.

Now, in case you’re wondering why we’re highlighting a year-old problem, well, as it turns out, many Google Nest Mini users are still complaining about the Wi-Fi disconnecting issue.

We’ve shared some user reports below for reference:

I’ve been persistently experiencing this issue since I got the Nest Mini gen 2 six months ago – it’s been a year since this issue was reported – how come there is no resolution yet? (Source)

Also having same issue. Nest mini 2nd gen randomly disconnecting from WiFi. Google mini 1st gen, in a different room has no problems. 2nd gen Cast firmware version: 1.50.229149 (Source)

i literally have to factory reset my google nest mini thing EVERY SINGLE DAY BECAUSE IT ALWAYS DISCONNECTS FROM THE WIFI (Source)

As you case see, the same problem affects a number of users to this date. The sad part is that Google has still not managed to fix the issue via firmware updates.

And according to some, the OG Google Home Mini does not have any issues when it comes to Wi-Fi stability. This definitely makes the Google Nest Mini look bad.

Adding to the disappointment, a ‘Community Specialist’ on the company’s support forums claimed that Google is aware of the problem and is working on a fix for it back in October, however, the problem still persists.

This makes us wonder whether the problem will ever be fixed. Further, it also raises the question of whether the Google Nest Mini Wi-Fi disconnecting issue is hardware related.

At present, rebooting or even performing a factory reset does not help fix the problem. Thus, those who are experiencing it will have to continue waiting for the seemingly elusive firmware update to address the issue.

Given that the Google Nest Mini is a smart home speaker, one should not have to worry about having to manually connect their speaker to the Wi-Fi multiple times a day.

Having said that, we will continue to track the situation and will post an update once any new details emerge regarding the Wi-Fi issues on the Nest Mini.

Update 1 (March 31, 2021)

More than three months later, we still haven’t heard a thing from Google regarding this issue yet reports from affected users keep flooding the forums.

As evident from the screenshot, the comments above were made less than 24 hours from the time of making this update. And there are plenty of others on the same thread to confirm the issue indeed still exists.

Update 2 (April 01, 2021)

Google has finally come forward to acknowledge this issue. Here’s what the official Twitter handle said while responding to a complaint.

Thanks for bringing this up. While our team is already aware of this and is working on a fix, we’d like to get more details about your Nest Mini devices to check if this is related to the reports we’ve received. Could you confirm the distance of your speakers from the router?

Update 3 (June 11, 2021)

One of our readers were told by Google Support to use different names for their 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WiFi networks as Google Home devices can store only one SSID/password. However, this should not be the case and the devices question should be adaptable for multiple home networks.

Thanks for the tip, Leo!
