Just in case you’re trying to get your head around why BBC iPlayer isn’t working, you might find solace in the fact that you aren’t the only one facing an issue with the service.
A quick look at the micro-blogging site — Twitter — conveys there are many others affected by the same issue.
As per reports, while some say the service isn’t working or broken for them, others say that it throws an error or notification stating – “Sorry, this content can only be played within the UK”.
For a quick glance, here’s how some of the complainants word the problem:
iPlayer incorrectly telling me that I’m not in the UK. Also can’t watch via smart TV. Lots of people seem to be reporting the same issue. Can you advise (Source)

Mine’s gone too. iPlayer thinks I’m not in the UK – I am and I pay my licence. (Source)
Many individuals have even shared images of the error message that’s popping up on their screens. Here’s one such example:
Of course, the error message would have been understandable if the individuals were trying to view content outside the UK, however, that isn’t the case here.
Viewers living in the UK are getting the message and some even claim that they were prevented from viewing content while in the middle of watching it.
Down detector – a popular service that gives information about live outages – also conveys that BBC iPlayer is indeed going through a glitch in the UK and other countries as can be seen in the image below:
Any official word on the matter? Negative, as yet. We’re yet to locate a word from the official service channels or their social media handles.

Update 1 (June 11)
06:31 pm (IST): It seems that other BBC services are affected by a glitch as well. BBC Sport — via Twitter — confirmed that they are currently experiencing some technical difficulties affecting the website and app. A fix for the issue is in the works but there’s no ETA.
It’s highly likely that the two issues are linked and will be fixed together. Nevertheless, we’ll continue tracking all developments.
10:38 pm (IST): The problem has apparently been fixed according to information shared by the official BBC iPlayer account on Twitter.
