New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on June 10, 2021) follows:

Apple announced macOS 12 Monterey at its WWDC 2021 keynote that kickstarted on June 7. It isn’t exactly that big an update over its predecessor – macOS 11 Big Sur – but there’s still plenty of new stuff.

For starters, there is the new Universal Control that allows users to seamlessly drag and drop items between iPads, MacBooks, iMacs, and more.

You also get iOS-like Shorcuts on macOS 12 that will allow you to automate everyday tasks by setting your own or by using ready-made ones.

Last but not least are some major updates to apps like FaceTime, Notes, and Safari along with AirPlay enhancements.

For the tech-savvy ones out there, Apple has already made the macOS 12 Monterey available as a developer beta through the developer program. However, given its early stages, the update may not give you the best of experiences.

Thankfully, you can remove macOS 12 Monterey beta from your Mac and go back to the comfort of macOS 11 Big Sur if you don’t like the new features, run into problems, or face app compatibility issues (particularly with Adobe).

You can even downgrade all the way back to Catalina or Mohave from macOS 12 if your Mac machine supports the operating systems.

To get on with the process, you will first have to first download macOS Big Sur and then create a bootable USB drive with it. For a demo on how to do that, head here.

Once you have the USB installer set, you will have to boot from it. Do keep in mind that if your Mac is an Intel one with a T2 security chip, then you will have to reboot into recovery by holding down the Option key.

Then, turn on the “Allowed Boot Media” option so that you can install Big Sur from the USB stick without hassle.

Next, boot back into the boot screen with all bootable devices listed by holding down the Option key during startup once again.

Lastly, be sure to backup all of your stuff before proceeding with erasing macOS 12 Monterey and performing a downgrade to macOS 11 Big Sur.

For steps on how to do that, along with all the prerequisites and everything, just refer to the video below.

Do keep in mind that the installation steps for the Intel Macs are different from that of the Apple Silicon M1 Macs. For a M1 Mac-specific installation video guide, head over to this link.
