New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…

Original story (published on June 09, 2021) follows:

We have been keeping track of the Android 11 update for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro since forever.

First confirmed to have entered the testing phase back in December last year, the device has been receiving regular Android 11 beta builds as part of the Chinese beta testing program ever since.

Stuff surrounding the Android 11 update for the device has been particularly eventful, so much so, that we even have dedicated an article to keeping track of all developments.

Needless to say, Android 11 for the Redmi Note 8 Pro is turning out to be quite a latecomer. After all, most of the eligible devices are now already running it.

Thankfully, a forum moderator has now shed some new light on the matter.

Despite the fact that we are talking about the Chinese version of MIUI 12.5, the distribution of the global version of MIUI 12.5 for Mi 9 Lite and Redmi Note 8 Pro will probably also be delayed.

As it stands, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro currently doesn’t meet the company’s “full internal OTA upgrade quality standards” for Android 11 due to which the MIUI 12.5 update may be delayed.

And it’s not just the Redmi Note 8 Pro that’s affected as the China-only Xiaomi Mi CC9, Mi CC9 Meitu Custom Edition, and Mi 9 Pro 5G are facing similar issues.

However, the MIUI engineering team has moved the four models to the highest priority development channel to speed up the process.

All this raises doubts on whether the Redmi Note 8 Pro will receive the MIUI 12 version of Android 11 at all.

Considering the fact that the update has been delayed indefinitely, it is more likely that the device will only taste Android 11 stable when MIUI 12.5 rolls out, just like the Redmi Note 9T.

But that’s only speculation at this point. For now, we recommend you to keep an eye on our dedicated MIUI 12.5 update tracker so that you do not miss out on anything.

Update 1 (June 19)

12:17 pm (IST): The Android 11-based MIUI 12.5 update is finally rolling out in China for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro indicating an imminent global release.
