One-handed mode might come back to Asus phones in subsequent updates

The average smartphone screen size has been on a steady rise throughout the 2010s and today, you’d be hard-pressed to find a decent compact smartphone, should you be in the market for one.

And for the most part, this is a good thing. Our mobile operating systems have become pretty capable and we need all that screen real-estate to make the most of this.

Now, there are still smartphone users with relatively smaller hands, and with the growing size of smartphone displays, there is a need to introduce features to help them use their phones more easily.

There are a bunch of accessibility features baked into both iOS and Android to help users in this regard, features that aid usability by either bringing UI functions to lower potions of the display or options to shrink the UI.

Asus has been offering this feature in its devices but the update to Android 11 seems to have thrown things into disarray. Reports indicate that the Zenfone 7 and Zenfone 6 lost this feature with the Android 11 update.

Even users of the ROG Phone 5 that came with Android 11 out of the box don’t have this one-handed mode feature baked into the software.

This has led to calls from users of these Asus devices, asking the company to consider re-enabling this rather useful feature on their devices that once supported this.

An Asus community forum admin has since come out to speak on this issue. In his response, it is apparent that Asus plans to bring back this feature to users of the Zenfone 7, and hopefully other affected devices.

According to the admin, this feature should come to the Zenfone 7 via an upcoming update.

After the one-handed mode, it will be put back to zenfone 7 through the update, thank you.

Seeing as a stable Android 12 build is still several months away for these Asus devices, chances are that this feature will be brought via an Android 11-based OTA update.

This, especially bearing in mind that the recently launched Asus Zenfone 8 series running on Android 11 (ZenUI 8) has one-handed mode baked in.
