Original story (published on April 9, 2020) follows:
Xiaomi Mi Box S started testing the beta version of Android Pie OS in mid-November 2019. The Android TV box went on to receive two more beta updates before the stable version arrived in early January 2020.
Despite arriving at a time when talks of Android 10 had taken center stage in the Android fraternity at large and over a year and a half since Google released the OS, the Mi Box S Android Pie update was still buggy.
Barely a couple of days later, we reported about the many bugs and issues that Mi Box S owners who had received the Pie update highlighted in various platforms. Having taken note of these developments, Xiaomi provided a way out for users.
In addition to submitting feedback on the issues affecting the Mi Box S Pie update, Xiaomi also provided the option to roll back to the stable and bug-free Android Oreo for those unhappy with the Pie update.
After working out a few things here and there, the Chinese vendor decided against proceeding with the wider rollout of the stable Pie update and instead reverted to pushing beta updates based on the same OS.
The first Mi Box S Pie beta update was re-released earlier this month as build number R2582, weighing in at 655MB. As per the changelog, the update brought the following bug fixes:
– Chromecast not working
– HULU playback freeze
– Special H264 decode error
– BT audio is not sync with video
– HDMI compatibility
– Pop sound when STB in standby mode
– Gboard not working when connecting an external Keyboard
As of this writing, those who bumped their Mi Box S units to build R2582 are now receiving a second Pie-based beta 2 update as build number R2596 and weighs in at the same 655MB. According to Xiaomi, this new update fixes the following critical issues:
– System is not stable after back from standby mode
– Support more WiFi channel in special area
Since OTA updates may take some time to hit all units, we also got you the download link needed for manual installation, both for the Mi Box S Pie beta 1 and the latest beta 2 ROMs.
