This story is being continuously updated…. New updates are being added at the bottom…..

Original story (published on May 7) follows:

Xiaomi has a new software update for the Redmi Note 9S rolling out as MIUI 11.0.7.0.QJWMIXM. The update is based on the latest stable Android 10 OS and tags along optimizations for issues with the display and a fix for modem restarting in some cases.

While the latter case – a fix for the modem issue – seemingly targets the annoying Redmi Note 9S WiFi bug that has been frustrating device owners for quite some time now, it actually has nothing to do with it.

Multiple Redmi Note 9S owners have been experiencing a bug where the phone doesn’t connect to the internet yet it shows WiFi is still connected. The device loses WiFi internet connection when in standby mode and does not even switch to mobile internet, leaving it completely offline.

Do you experience WiFi connected but no internet issue after long inactivity? I have been using Redmi Note 9S for 1 week. Every morning, when I start using the phone, I found that all apps are not connected to internet. The WiFi is connected but no internet access. I need to turn off the WiFi and reconnect it again in order to gain internet access.

If anything, it is easy to assume the modem bug-fixer in the latest MIUI 11.0.7.0 update addresses this issue, but a Mi forum moderator says otherwise. Matter of fact, the WiFi bug is something the company is aware of.

The moderator says the issue is being looked into and will likely be addressed in the next MIUI update for the Note 9S. This bug-fixing update should hit the device before the release of MIUI 12.

As discussed earlier in the subforum, I have pushed this issue with the relevant team – hopefully it will be fixed in the coming update.

Someone on XDA forums also seconds the above statement, adding that Xiaomi considers this as a high priority bug that needs urgent attention.

Update 4 (September 10)

IST 04:03 pm: According to moderators on the Mi forums, Xiaomi may fix the Mi Video application and late or often missing app notifications issues on the Redmi Note 9S with the update to MIUI 12. See more details here.

Update 5 (June 01)

IST 06:46 pm: Over a year later, there seems to be still no respite for the Wi-Fi issues plaguing the Redmi Note 9S.

Moderators have continued providing the same old status for the issue saying that the matter has been escalated. But thankfully, there is now a new workaround available that may help you:

the temporary solution is to open wifi setting and change “dhcp ip” into “static ip” then wifi connect automatically
