New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on January 22, 2021) follows:

Android 11 has been around for a few months at this point and already a decent number of devices across various OEMs have managed to bag this update. More on that in our dedicated Android 11 tracker here.

Not to be left behind, Oppo is also pushing out its skinned version of Android 11, ColorOS 11, to its eligible devices. We’ve been closely following this rollout and you can check out more on that here.

One of the devices from Oppo that is eligible for an update to the much-anticipated Android 11-based ColorOS 11 is the Oppo A9 2020 released back in 2019.

This mid-range device packed quite the punch when it first launched. It runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 chip and pairs that with up to 8GB of RAM for a modest Android experience.

At the time of writing, the device which launched with Android 9 Pie out of the box now runs Android 10 with ColorOS 7.1 on top.

Recently, we saw Oppo come out to announce its roadmap to Android 11-based ColorOS 11 for its eligible devices for the month of January.

In the list, the Oppo A9 was expected to get a ColorOS 11 update sometime in January, a prospect that also implied that the stable release was a short few weeks away.

Well, in a move that can only be seen as Oppo going back on its word, the company is now notifying users on social media that this isn’t happening.

When asked by a number of users when exactly their Oppo A9 devices will get the promised Beta builds of ColorOS 11, Oppo goes to notify them that the builds will be available in the second quarter of 2021.

Hey Ankit, the beta version of ColorOS 11 based on Android 11 for OPPO A9 2020 will start to roll out in the second quarter of this year. Kindly stay tuned with us for further announcements on the same. Thank you!

It remains unclear what is causing Oppo’s change of heart in this regard as feedback from both the ColorOS team and Oppo India Support handles has been nothing but generic.

We shall continue to keep an eye on this story and update as and when we get more info so stay tuned. In the meantime, you can check out our Oppo Android 11 tracker for more.
