New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on April 11, 2021) follows:
OEMs under the BBK Electronics umbrella have pulled up their socks when it comes to software updates, except OnePlus — which appears to have taken the wrong route this year.
If OEMs such as Vivo, Oppo, and Realme keep up the good work, we might even see more devices getting the update to Android 12 before the end of the year compared to the Android 11 rollout.
Speculation aside, Vivo has currently rolled out Android 11 to a bunch of smartphones and you can check out all the details in our dedicated tracker.
While Android 11 is still fresh of the block, at least for Vivo phones, it’s no longer the latest Android OS. Google has already rolled out the Android 12 Developer Preview version 2.2 for the Pixels.
Moreover, it’s expected to divulge more details surrounding Android 12 at the Google I/O 2021 event that will take place between May 18 – 20.
That said, we’ll keep track of all the developments related to Funtouch OS 12, OriginOS, and iQOO UI 3.0, all of which will be based on Android 12.
Vivo Funtouch OS 12/OriginOS/iQOO UI 3.0 release date
Last year, Vivo was amongst the few OEMs that rolled out the Android 11 beta for their flagships while Google was beta testing the update for the Pixels.
According to Google’s official schedule, the beta program will go live from May and will end sometime in August. Thus we can expect to see Vivo release the Android 12 beta for a couple of its flagship models.
Vivo might continue with the beta tests after Google rolls out the stable builds for its Pixel phones. After further testing, it’s likely that the stable Android 12 update for Vivo phones will go live towards the end of the year.
List of eligible devices
Vivo usually seeds 2 major OS updates to most smartphones. However, it does not guarantee the same. This makes it a tad tricky to figure out which models will get the upcoming Android update and which ones won’t.
So it’s likely that most, if not all, Vivo phones that launched with Android 10 or Android 11 out of the box should get the update to Android 12. Although, some low-end models might not get the same treatment.
With that in mind, we’ve curated a list of Vivo phones that we think might get the Android 12 update with the Funtouch OS 12, OriginOS, or iQOO UI 3.0 skin depending on the region and model.
It’s also worth noting that OriginOS is currently limited to Vivo phones sold in China. Elsewhere, the company will continue to seed its Funtouch OS skin.
