New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on May 19, 2021) follows:
It has only been a few hours since Google dropped the Android 12 bomb on us showcasing what we can expect to see with the upcoming Android OS.
Android 12 is shaping up to be one of the biggest updates to the platform in recent years thanks to the Material You design that it showed off at the I/O event.
Before this, Android OS updates were mostly focused on privacy and under the hood improvements with a few minor tweaks to the UI for a few years.
But this time around, Google has gone all out with its Material You design that “embraces emotion and expressiveness.” You can have a glimpse of Android 12’s Material You design in the video below.
Pretty impressive right? That being said, Google rolled out the Android 12 Beta 1 update right after the announcement for the Pixels along with a few other OEMs who’re participating in the beta program such as Xiaomi, OnePlus, Vivo, and Oppo.
Naturally, many users rushed to download the beta 1 update on eligible devices thinking that they’ll get to check out the all-new Material You design.
But to their disappointment, the new Material You elements are only visible in some areas of the UI.
This has left many users asking one big question — how to enable Material You in Android 12?
The simple answer to that is there’s no ‘toggle switch’ that you can tap in the Android 12 Beta 1 update to enable the Material You design.
A fresh report confirmed that the new design is only partly live in the first Android 12 beta update. Changes such as the new notification shade, lock screen clock layout, and more are here.
But that’s about all you will get with the first beta update. So when will Google actually release its Material You design in Android 12?
Well, in its official announcement, the company has confirmed that “Material You comes first to Google Pixel this fall.”
So it’s likely that the complete Material You experience in Android 12 will only be available once Google rolls out the stable update for its Pixel phones.
However, it’s likely that we’ll see more of the new UI changes and tweaks with upcoming Android 12 beta updates over the next few months.
So be sure to check out our dedicated Android 12 update tracker and even keep an eye out on our Android 12 tracker exclusively for Pixels for more details.
Update 1 (May 21)
12:46 pm (IST): The new Material You Google Sans font is now available to download as highlighted by a user on Reddit. The new font may replace Roboto in the upcoming Android 12 beta updates.

Update 2 (June 10)
06:15 pm (IST): It seems that the latest Android 12 beta 2 update enables the Material You (Monet) wallpaper-based theming without the need of modding. Also, the Material You support is also in the works for Google Messages.
I might have material you. Some menus have a red hue matching my wallpaper. Edit: Changed my wallpaper I definitely have it
