MIUI 12.5/MIUI 13 alleged upcoming feature list revealed: numerous new system additions & app updates in development

The stable releases of the latest update of Xiaomi’s Android software skin – MIUI 12.5 – are presently in full swing. The catalog of devices running the version keeps getting extended with each passing day.

These rollouts had commenced in late March much to everyone’s surprise, considering that Xiaomi had scheduled MIUI 12.5 for eligible devices no time before Q2 2021.

The releases were initially limited to Chinese upper-range device variants but eventually trickled on to the global variants as well, starting with the Redmi Note 10S and Mi 11.

Anyway, while these stable releases continue hitting more and more devices, Xiaomi isn’t done with the beta versions of the MIUI 12.5 update just yet.

We previously had a reason to believe that Xiaomi would tone down the MIUI 12.5 feature additions. This was due to the plethora of performance issues and bugs plaguing the Android skin that worsened with the onset of Android 11.

However, as it stands, a new upcoming MIUI 12.5 features list has gone live and boy does it prove Xiaomi’s stubbornness with making their Android skin the most feature-rich piece of software in the market.

The list highlights some major upcoming changes to MIUI. While most of these seem to be app updates, there are plenty of system-level changes as well.

The most notable ones include a fill light feature to help with low-light face unlocking, an option to adjust the brightness of the flashlight, and a way to display the phone temperature on the status bar itself.

Pretty cool stuff. But that’s not all. The complete list of alleged upcoming features has been given below. Do note that they’ve been classified into two groups – the first being under development and the second still under assessment:

When the screen is locked, it can only be rebooted.
Optimize the ability of mobile phones to access the Internet.

Mechanical keyboard function.
Timer to deactivate Bluetooth.
Mute / Do Not Disturb supports more timing options.
Lite Mode supports remote assistance.

[Under consideration]
The storage space shows the hidden space of the phone.
Double-click on the status bar to return to the top of the screen.
Dual app data backup.
Use of full-screen one-handed mode (product plan is now available and scheduled to launch).

Modify the system font color.
Adjusting the brightness of the flashlight.
The blank area of ​​the one-handed mode shows WeChat, shortcuts, and more.
The status bar shows the temperature of the phone.

Too much for you to grasp already? Well, these are only the system-level changes. There is also a slew of upcoming features in the MIUI system apps, Super Wallpapers, MIUI+, notifications, and more that you can access from here.

An ETA for when these features would make the final cut wasn’t given but one can still expect them to get added over time to MIUI 12.5 beta builds, and eventually making it to the stable branch.

Also worth mentioning here is that since the features list is fairly lengthy, it could be possible that many of its elements won’t make it to MIUI 12.5 and will instead get held back for MIUI 13.

Moreover, while the list has been given out by a Feedback Team member of the Chinese MIUI community, we would advise taking it all with a pinch of salt. After all, many of these features are still only under consideration.
