Coming as a great piece of tech, Google Home/Nest quickly secured a spot in our homes and build them smarter with multiple tasks just one voice command away.
There are high expectations from Google when it comes to technology and smart homes but this piece of tech hasn’t really lived up to its price.
We have even sought views from the device owners on whether the performance of Google Home or Nest units has degraded over time.
Well, add one more issue to the already long list of things that downgrades the performance and convenience of these smart speakers.
Google Home and Nest users have started to realize that the voice commands no longer work properly and it responds differently to the same command.
All the time. I have a smart plug called ‘desk’. With the command “turn on the desk” I’ll either get “okay, turning on the desk” or “power controls for this device is not available yet”.
Always, just telling him to turn on the lights, google would say “flash isn’t available right now”
and I would ask google again maybe 3 times, before turning on the lights
At times, the Google Home or Nest won’t execute even the correct command and the user will have to keep rephrasing it until it is easy enough for the assistant to grasp.
As strange as it may seem, there are actually high chances that you may end in a similar situation.
Google really needs to put some brains into this thing to understand commands better. It almost seems like the machine hasn’t been updated with better learning over time.
This could possibly be due to the fact that it hasn’t be trained as efficiently as we see on other competitors like Alexa.
Well, instead of helping out, honestly, it makes things even more complicated. Google really needs to shift focus to Google Assistant before it’s too late.
This isn’t something that can’t do. Hope it reaches the concerned team as soon as possible. In the meantime, we will continue to keep looking for a workaround or a solution.
