BBC iPlayer buffering/choppy playback on PS4 issue under investigation; subtitles coming to iPlayer on Apple TV

BBC iPlayer is available on multiple platforms ranging from the Apple TV to consoles such as the PS4 and even Android or iOS devices.

For the most part, BBC iPlayer comes with all the bells and whistles that you’d expect from a video streaming service such as sub-titles, a TV guide, and more.

Moreover, BBC keeps its apps across all platforms updated and bug-free for the most part. Speaking of which, BBC has confirmed that they’re aware of the buffering or choppy playback issues on the PS4.

Apparently, some BBC iPlayer users on the PS4 have been reporting that some programs are buffering or the playback is choppy.

BBC has confirmed that ‘Match of the Day’ is one of the programs that is affected by this glitch or bug.

Unfortunately, it has not divulged any details regarding an ETA for the fix. Hence, the issue may get fixed within a couple of days or may take even longer.

According to the company, delivering subtitles on the Apple TV requires a significantly different solution to what they use across other platforms.

Hence the reason why BBC iPlayer does not support subtitles via Apple TV. The good news, however, is that BBC is working to bring the feature to Apple TV as well.

But the company has not shared any timeline which suggests that it might take a while before users finally get to see subtitles while watching content on Apple TVs via BBC iPlayer.
