Xiaomi’s MIUI 12.5 update releases may still be in their budding stage but are being rolled out to eligible devices steadily and as per the planned schedule.

The update brings about several changes including performance improvements, enhanced privacy features, an updated Notes app, new animations, and some UI tweaks.

Still, MIUI 12.5 can’t exactly be referred to as a ‘major’ update given that the list of changes introduced with it although numerous are somewhat minor.

So much so, that a regular user won’t be able to spot the differences between MIUI 12 and MIUI 12.5 if they’re kept side by side unless they exactly know where to look.

But this is quite expected considering that MIUI 12.5 was never intended to bring along a huge revamp in the first place. Rather, it was designed as an iterative update to bridge the gap between MIUI 12 and MIUI 13.

What wasn’t expected, however, is that Xiaomi’s next big update – MIUI 13 – would be announced as early as June 25. This is as per a report on Gizchina.

Do keep in mind though that this is unconfirmed information and is based on rumors so take it with a pinch of salt.

Moving on to expected features, again, not much is known currently apart from the fact that MIUI 13 may come with an option to expand the RAM – a great addition given MIUI’s infamous RAM-eating tendencies.

Still, this feature could also be introduced with a future MIUI 12.5 update itself so let’s just wait and see how stuff actually unravels.

Additionally, the update is touted to redesign the MIUI package installer. To read more about that, head here.

That said, let’s now address the elephant in the room – the big suspenseful question of eligibility.

It was earlier believed that every device receiving the MIUI 12.5 update would also get updated MIUI 13. However, as it turns out, that isn’t going to be the case.

A couple of devices like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 series and the Mi CC9e had recently been dropped from the MIUI 12.5 Chinese public beta program indicating that they had neared the end of their software support.

This development is reflected in a new MIUI 13 eligibility list. This list has to be the most accurate one to date since it’s based on MIUI’s own official update policy. Still, it isn’t anything official so is subject to changes in the future.
