Twitter has found itself in hot water recently for censoring tweets and even entire accounts. While the ethics of doing so are debatable, some suspensions come as a direct result of violating Twitter’s guidelines.
In case you were unaware, every established social media platform has certain guidelines that users must adhere to. If not, the company can and will remove, censor, or suspend accounts that violate the guidelines.
This helps keep social media platforms free from false information, hate speech, and cyberbullies, or at least that’s what companies hope to achieve.
And it appears that Twitter is on overdrive lately as it has been suspending accounts left and right. But the kicker here is that many accounts are getting suspended for no apparent reason.
We’re seeing dozens upon dozens of reports from users claiming that their accounts or accounts of their friends have been suspended even though they didn’t do anything that goes against the Twitter guidelines.
Hello @TwitterSupport @Twitter, the account @ParkJIMINsJapan got suspended for no reason.
They have never violated any Twitter rule or TOS. Please check on the matter and restore their account as soon as possible, thank you!!! (Source)
Why has Twitter suspended Adam Waldmanns account and does not give it back? Why does twitter not want a verified account for the real Johnny Depp? (Source)
Hi @TwitterSupport, this account (@classidc) got suspended and she never violated the Twitter rules. Could you please consider and unsuspend it? (Source)
Of course, some accounts that were suspended were nothing more than bot accounts. This indicates that the platform is on a mission to get rid of as many bots as it could, similar to the move made by Twitch recently.
However, actual users who woke up to see their accounts suspended on Twitter, seemingly for no reason, have been trying to seek help from support.
Matter of fact, Twitter support has acknowledged that they’ve begun experiencing a rise in such cases and claim that they’ve begun responding to reports as soon as they can.
Unfortunately, this does not shed light on why some accounts are being suspended without any guidelines being violated.
That said, in case your account on Twitter has been suspended, you should be getting a response from Twitter soon if you haven’t already.
As usual, we’ll keep tabs on the situation and will post an update if and when more details come to light.
