[Update: Alleged to release with future OTA] After Realme 7 Pro, early Realme 8 Pro video reviews reveal missing AOD customizations too

Realme has built a huge pool of devices through back-to-back launches. The company refreshes its number series every 6-8 months, and the recent addition is the Realme 8 series.

While Realme is preparing for the upcoming launch, videos have already started surfacing on the internet about the initial impressions of these devices.

The Realme 8 series will also be the first one from the company to arrive with Android 11-based Realme UI 2.0.

Realme UI 2.0 packs a bundle of exciting new features that include Always-On Display customizations and Edge Lighting for the devices with AMOLED panels.

The brand has an aim to democratize AMOLED displays and 5G in mid-range devices but there lie some unanswered questions before the OEM moves ahead with its ambitions.

Realme 7 Pro that packed an AMOLED panel never got the much anticipated Always-On Display customizations and Edge Lighting features. Even after CEO’s affirmation, users still await an update.

The main culprit is what appears to be a hardware incompatibility. Even though the OEM managed to provide an OLED display on Realme 7 Pro but failed to maintain display standards.

The company’s quietness and a mysterious RAM-less display ended up creating more confusion. More on that here.

It appears that Realme moved ahead without paying much heed to the past controversies.

Realme 8 Pro, in the initial unboxing videos, doesn’t seem to pack the AOD customizations and Edge Lighting either. This could possibly be due to the same reason as Realme 7 Pro.

It definitely comes as a major disappointment to not only the ones who have plans to buy this device but to every Realme user as the brand did everything to flaunt the features but failed to deliver even on the most recent Realme X7 series.

It still remains unclear whether this is something that could be added with a future OTA update. But if Madhav Sheth’s statement is anything to go by, this shouldn’t be a tough task for Realme developers.

It will be interesting to see the company’s response to the hot debate that’s upcoming when people find out their favorite AOD customizations are missing.

IST 03:30 pm: Curious Realme 8 Pro future users have started to question the company for the absence of AOD customizations and Edge Lighting features from the device.

The customer support, when enquired about the features, allegedly states that this is taken into considerations and may arrive with a future OTA update.

IST 11:43 am: Months later, a forum representative re-assures users that developers are already working to provide the AOD features to the Realme 8.
