Samsung has introduced a new “experimental” AR application dubbed AR Canvas that offers users fun features to decorate the space around them with AR content.
Augmented Reality apps have come a long way since we first started seeing them pop up thanks to the improvements in hardware as well as machine learning algorithms.
Even still, AR isn’t all that popular on smartphones. But that isn’t holding Samsung back which already has a bunch of AR features such as AR Emoji Camera, AR Doodle, AR Emoji Studio, and more.
The South Korean firm jumped on board the augmented reality train with the release of AR Emoji for certain models to take on Apple’s Memoji.
However, Samsung’s downright inferior AR Emoji feature was not even in the same ballpark as Memoji.
That said, the new AR Canvas app from Samsung takes the AR experience up a notch. The app lets users use 3D text, brushes, scans of 2D pictures, GIF stickers, and gallery photos to decorate their AR space.
AR content can be anchored to spaces for 30 days. This means users would be able to view their AR decorations by simply launching the AR Canvas app and pointing their cameras towards the anchored AR content any time.
Initially, AR Canvas will only be available for certain Samsung phones running on Android 11 with the One UI 3.0 or newer skins.

– Samsung Galaxy S21+
– Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra
– Samsung Galaxy A80
– Samsung Galaxy S20
– Samsung Galaxy S20+
– Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra
If your device isn’t mentioned in the list, don’t fret. Samsung has confirmed that AR Canvas will be available to more devices in the future.
