The Redmi Note 8, just like literally any other device from the critically acclaimed Redmi Note series, turned out to be insanely popular.

It may have since been superseded by the Redmi Note 9 and the Redmi Note 10 but is still a decent offering even by 2021 standards.

The device booted into MIUI 10 based on Android Pie at the time of its launch back in late 2019 and has since seen several major updates. Currently, it runs MIUI 12 based on Android 10.

Xiaomi announced MIUI 12.5 late last year and Redmi Note 8 users have been waiting eagerly ever since. And just weeks following the official announcement, the Redmi Note 8 got a taste of Android 11 with the first MIUI 12.5 beta.

Of course, beta releases are limited to China alone which is why global users have always felt a bit left out. Still, Xiaomi has been kind enough to introduce a Mi Pilot Testing program for global users.

The program only gives out MIUI 12 stable releases though. However, for the savvy ones out there, there sure are some alternatives. The Xiaomi.eu project can help satisfy your MIUI 12.5 needs if you have an unlocked bootloader.

But why look for alternatives when MIUI 12.5 stable is just around the corner? An unofficial channel has reported that the Redmi Note 8 is now undergoing internal MIUI 12.5 stable testing.

This testing again is seemingly limited to China but is still a good indicator that the device may bag the MIUI 12.5 stable update pretty soon.

That said, you will also be pleased to know that a community moderator hinted that a MIUI 13 update for the Redmi Note 8 is on the cards. Yep, another thing to be excited about once MIUI 12.5 stable makes it to the Redmi Note 8.

For now, be sure to keep an eye on our dedicated MIUI 12.5 update tracker so that you do not miss out on any developments.
