LG confirms Android 12 update for 19 devices including G, V, K series, LG Stylo, Velvet and Wing; Android 13 also promised for few

A few days ago, LG hammered the final nail in the coffin for its smartphone business by announcing that it’ll be ceasing operations by the end of July.

Although LG had stated that it would continue to offer software support for existing models based on the region. More on that here.

Now, in a fresh announcement, LG has shared even more details surrounding the availability of future software updates for all eligible smartphones.

The soon-to-be-gone smartphone OEM has confirmed that it will be sending out 3 major OS updates for its premium devices released in 2019 or later.

This includes the LG Velvet, LG Velvet 5G/UW, LG Wing 5G, LG G8 ThinQ, LG G8X ThinQ, LG G8S ThinQ, LG V60 ThinQ 5G/UW, LG V50 ThinQ (LG V50 Dual Screen), and LG V50S ThinQ 5G.

The LG Velvet models, LG V60 ThinQ models, and the LG Wing come with Android 10 pre-installed. The other aforementioned devices come with Android 9 pre-installed.

What this means is that all these LG devices will bag the update to Android 12. Matter of fact, the flagships that come with Android 10 should also be eligible for the update to Android 13, but that’s still far off.

Apart from its flagships, the South Korean electronics manufacturer also confirmed that it will seed 2 OS updates for certain 2020 models such as the LG Stylo and K series.

The LG Stylo 6 was the only phone from the series to launch in 2020 whereas the company launched a slew of K-series phones last year — LG K92 5G, LG K42, LG K71, LG K62, LG K22, LG K52, and LG K31.

Android 12 will be the last major OS update for these mid-range or budget-friendly options from LG. Furthermore, going by past trends, it seems users may have to wait more than a year to get the update.

That said, LG’s exit from the smartphone market will leave folks in the U.S. with even fewer smartphone brands to choose from with carriers.
