New updates to this story are being added at the bottom…
Original story (from October 12) follows:
The new version of Android, Android 11, is officially here, having been officially unveiled a month ago.
As expected, Google’s own Pixel devices already run this version of Android and if you’re lucky, your device already has a ‘semi-stable’ build of Android 11 courtesy of the developer community.
Not to be completely outmatched by the custom ROM makers, we have seen some impressive progress from various Android OEMs who are hard at work, building, and testing their respective custom Android 11 skins.
We have a dedicated Android 11 tracker here to keep tabs on all the progress going into making this new version of Android available to eligible devices.
OnePlus has already rolled out Android 11 in form of OxygenOS 11 to the OnePlus 8 devices which begs the question, what about older OnePlus devices?
OnePlus has not shared its official timeline for Android 11. We, therefore, still have no clue on when the likes of OnePlus 7 and 6 series (eligible devices) are slated to get updated to Android 11-based OxygenOS 11.
Today, it has been revealed by a community forum moderator that OxygenOS 11 update will not be ready for the OnePlus 7 series (that is, OnePlus 7/Pro and 7T/Pro) until 2021.
If this is the timeline for the OnePlus 7 series of devices, we can only imagine how long it’ll take the company to make OxygenOS 11 available for the other eligible devices such as the OnePlus 6 series of devices.
While this info comes to us from a moderator, it is not the final word and OnePlus users might want to look out for the company’s official Android 11 roadmap.
OnePlus 8 series has been updated a month after the official launch, we would expect the same pace to be carried over in updating other eligible devices.
We shall continue to keep an eye on this story and update as and when we get more details. With that, you might want to stay tuned to our dedicated OnePlus section for more.
Update 1 (October 13)
When asked by a user about our coverage on the matter, the forum moderator clarified that this is by no way an official timeline, something which we clarified in our original story as well.
For the record, here’s what the mod said:
Please do not take my post as the official timeline. I have mentioned a speculated ETA by when the 7 series owners could expect, though it could be by end of this year too, just a matter enough feedback and testing for Android 11 builds for 7 series.
7 Series owners can expect a rollout anytime between Q4 2020 – Q1 2021 IMO based on the previous release cycles for a major Android release
Also, the article owner did not check with me before quoting my post so it’s purely, speculation not an official announcement.
