New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…

Original story (published on March 31, 2021) follows:

The Xiaomi Mi 10i is known by many different names – Mi 10T Lite globally and is even sold under the Redmi branding in China as the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G. But all of these devices go with a common codename – gauguin.

Anyway, the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G has been undergoing MIUI 12.5 beta testing for quite a while now. We previously highlighted how the device got a taste of Android 11 when the first MIUI 12.5 beta update went live for it.

This happened a couple of months back in January. Since then, Mi 10i users have been awaiting a stable Android 11 rollout. And good news arrived around a week back when the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G began to receive Android 11 in China.

This rollout obviously meant that the Indian Mi 10i was only next in line. After all, both the Mi 10T Lite and Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G have now been treated to Android 11 in stable beta form.

This left all but the Mi 10i. Thankfully, its users don’t really have to wait for long going by the latest pilot update release. The Android 11 update is now rolling out in India to select users.

These select users had all signed up for the Indian MIUI Pilot testing program. While not many details had been provided regarding the kind of updates to expect under its umbrella, it’s pretty clear now.

Nonetheless, the download link for the pilot test Android 11-based MIUI 12 build for the Mi 10i has been given below:

  • Device: Xiaomi Mi 10i
  • Codename: gauguin
  • Channel: Pilot beta stable
  • Version: 12.0.1.0.RJSINXM
  • Android: 11
    • Type: Recovery

It is unlikely that the update will be properly installable if you aren’t a pilot program participant but there is no harm in giving it a try, although we do not really recommend it.

This is because now that the Android 11 update is under its pilot testing phase, it shouldn’t really take much longer for a stable release. If all goes well, it should roll out within a couple of weeks.
