Google Chrome users earlier this year reported about an issue where they were unable to turn off the trending searches from showing up in the app.

As per those affected, the issue was showing up on both mobile and desktop versions of Chrome.

Of course, a couple or so workarounds have since surfaced, but we all know workarounds are just temporary solutions. Unfortunately, Google hasn’t acknowledged this issue to date.

Back then, it was speculated that the trending searches could be a new feature being tested for Chrome users. This should explain the limited availability of the feature.

For those not affected, they can still see their search history when they tap to enter text in the search box. And apparently, this issue is now showing up on the Google Search app on Android devices.

According to reports that have just started showing up, tapping to add search terms in the Google Search app no longer reveals your search history.

Hi there. I’m having the same issue and it started around the same time as this. All my setting are untouched and my searches are in my history when I go into the Google settings but there not on the search bar like mentioned here.

Instead, affected users are presented with a list of trending searches. Check out the screenshot below for reference.

It must be remembered that a little over a year ago, the Google Search app automatically enabled trending searches with an update to the iOS version. Maybe it’s time for the Android app to get a similar dose, too?

Well, it looks like it, especially now that one user claims they can no longer see the search history in the Google app on multiple Android devices.

I’ve tried all of my devices … Galaxy S21 Ultra, Galaxy Tab S7 Plus and my laptop … search history is gone on all of them. This sucks.

On the brighter side, a product expert in the Google Search forums has come to the rescue, confirming that the Search team is already investigating this issue.

This issue has been referred to the Google Search team for investigation.

There’s no timeline for when we can expect an official statement on this matter, but affected users can at least rest assured the issue is being looked into.

Since not everyone is affected by this issue (we weren’t able to reproduce the issue — search history still shows up in the Search app for our Android devices), maybe reverting to an older version may be an option.

We will be keeping an eye on this matter and let you know when we have feedback from Google. Stay tuned to PiunikaWeb.
