Google Meet Polls feature alleged to release for Android devices soon

The Google Meet polls feature was rolled out not-so-recently back in October last year. This useful little function can prove to be especially useful in certain scenarios.

For starters, they can serve as a great ice-breaker. Just use them at the beginning of a meeting and you will automatically have everyone’s attention. After all, who doesn’t love polls?

But their real utility lies in their ability to facilitate an effective system for taking feedback on any given topic. Without polls, taking feedback can turn out to be quite chaotic and inefficient. If anything, we are surprised that this feature wasn’t implemented sooner.

Nonetheless, now that it’s here, it is indeed being widely used. However, there is one major missing link in the current implementation of polls that has turned out to be a dealbreaker for many.

Polls on Google Meet do not support Android as of now. The feature has been limited to iOS/iPadOS and of course the desktop users.

And what good are polls when their results do not reflect upon the sentiments on all of a Google Meet session’s participants? That is kind of ‘undemocratic’, to be honest.

Moreover, it has been over five months since the polls feature first began to roll out and it’s high time that the same now made it to Android too. Android users must feel left out anyway.

Fortunately, there is now some good news. As per a Gold Product Expert on the Google Meet forums, the Google Meet Polls feature is set to arrive on Android pretty soon too.

As clear from above, the delay has been due to the huge fragmentation on Android which calls for extensive testing before deeming the feature worthy of a stable release.

Now what Google should really have done here is delaying the polls feature rollout until it was worthy of being released across all platforms. This would have made things fairer for everyone.

But hey, now that it is all set to roll out real soon, there’s not much left to complain about.

Anyway, it is worth mentioning here that the option to create new polls has been limited to hosts on desktop. It would be great to see this function arrive on all platforms. But that is something for another time.
