[Updated] Avatarify app for Android APK: Here's what we know

Over the past few years, we’ve come across a bunch of AI-based applications for Android and iOS devices. Some such apps are usually nothing more than gimmicks while others are actually useful or fun to use.

Now, GIFs and videos from a new AI-based app called Avatarify have been doing rounds on the internet and everyone wants to get the app on their phones too.

The Avatarify app lets users animate still images of celebrities or any other person for that matter by adding expressions or emotions to the face by simply recording a video of themselves and letting the AI do its work.

The results are often hilarious and, at times, even a tad creepy since the AI manages to animate the still image far better than you might expect at times. Check out one such example below:

While that’s all good, the application is currently only available for iOS devices on the App Store even though some reports claim that it’s available on the Google Play Store as well.

Searching for the Avatarify: AI Face Animator‬ app on the Google Play Store will only come up with a bunch of imitation apps that try to trick users into downloading them since they use the same icon as Avatarify.

As you can see from the screenshot above, the Play Store has a bunch of unofficial apps — some that don’t even run — with the Avatarify icon.

That said, if you’ve been using an Android phone, you’ve probably installed apps via APK files on your device or at least heard of APK files.

There are a bunch of websites and videos on YouTube claiming to offer the Avatarify app APK file for Android devices. Some of these reports or guides even apparently show video proof of the app running on an Android phone.

But guess what? None of the Avatarify APK files for Android are from the original developer of the Avatarify app — Avatarify, Inc or Ali Aliev.

Now, these fake APK files being spread across the internet could be much more harmful than downloading a wannabe Avatarify app from the Google Play Store on your Android device.

So we’d recommend that you do not download or install any APK file that is disguised as the official application since it most likely could contain malware or may simply be plagued with ads.

At the time of writing, the developer has not shared any details regarding the possibility of the Avatarify app being released for Android phones on the Google Play Store or via an official APK.

That, unfortunately, means Android users will only be able to join in on the facing moving app fun as viewers and not creators.

There are no identical alternatives to Avatarify on Android, however, the official Reface app is another cool app that lets you swap out faces and create fun animations.

As usual, we will keep track of the situation and will post an update if and when there are any developments regarding the availability of an official Avatarify APK file for Android or if it makes its way to the Play Store.

– Mug Life – 3D Face Animator
– Anyface: face animation & talking photos

Anyface is possibly the closest Android alternative to Avatarify and offers a bunch of features. Mug Life is available under an Early Access badge and thus isn’t as feature-rich as some other similar apps. However, it’s a fun app that’s worth checking out.
