Google Meet allows moderators to create and edit groups of participants by using breakout rooms from the Activities section.
The breakout rooms feature is accessible to users with Business Standard, G Suite Business, Business Plus, Workplace Essentials, Enterprise Plus, Enterprise Essentials, and Enterprise Standard editions.
Additionally, the feature is available to those who have the Google Workspace Education Plus license along with privileges to create and modify meetings.
However, some users with the aforementioned Google Workspace editions are unable to use the breakout rooms feature.
As per numerous reports, the feature simply does not show up in the Activities section even though users have the required permissions.
While there has been no official word from Google on the matter, there are other ways to get the breakout rooms feature.
Google Chrome users can get the said feature and much more by installing extensions available on Chrome Web Store.
Some of the popular extensions are Google Meet Attendees & Breakout Rooms, Google Meet Breakout Rooms by Robert Hudek, and Meet Plus for Google Meet.
These extensions offer a lot of useful features including sortable lists, list comparison, person randomization, and much more.
Moreover, some of these extensions even allow free Gmail account users to manage breakout rooms.
It is, however, unclear as to why the breakout rooms feature is not showing up for several users as there has been no official announcement on the matter so far.
Nevertheless, the extensions mentioned above can come in quite handy in case you are one of the affected users.
Hopefully, Google officially addresses the missing breakout rooms issue soon as most users would want to get the services they are paying for.
That said, we will get back with more such stories as and when new information becomes available so stay tuned.
