Google Photos comes pre-installed with just about every Android smartphone with a few exceptions and is regarded as one of the best Gallery apps for Android.

Apart from the clean and clutter-free user interface, Google Photos also offers useful features such as the option to edit photos, sync between devices, a powerful search, and more.

Google regularly updates the Photos application too with new features and bug fixes to keep things running smoothly.

But every now and then a few issues pop up that are usually fixed via updates to the app. One such issue that surfaced recently was the missing Nearby Share option after the update to Android 11.

Now, it seems an individual has shed some light on another bothersome bug in Google Photos which results in duplicate images and photos being cataloged under wrong dates on the Android app.

In a fresh thread on Google’s support site, an individual has shared their research and findings of the bug that persists even in the latest Google Photos app.

According to the individual’s findings, images that are edited and even images that aren’t edited are affected by the bug that results in them being duplicated in the Google Photos app.

The user has also shared an example of the images being cataloged under the wrong dates which get fixed after clearing the data of the app.

As for the incorrect date issues on Google Photos, a Diamond Product Expert on Google support has claimed that the company is aware of the issues with the app sync for dates.

Google are aware of the issues with the app sync for dates, the best thing to do to help is to leave feedback including logs to let them know it is an ongoing problem. They do not update on progress so we need to keep the feedback going. (Source)

Coming back to the duplicate photos issue on the Google Photos Android app, the individual may have figured out where the problem lies. Here’s what they have to say:

Of course, you can take a look at the original thread (link above) for more details and examples of the bug, however, it’s clear that the issue is present and needs to be fixed.

When asked about the status of the problem, the Diamond Product Expert claimed that Google is still investigating the issue.

Unfortunately, this does not guarantee that the duplicate images issue in the Google Photos app for Android will be fixed right away.

In case you’ve come across the same problem, let us know by dropping a comment below. We will post an update once there are any further developments regarding the issue.
