Some OnePlus 8/8T series users facing Keyboard (Gboard) and Navigation gesture issues after the latest update

Over the past couple of months, we’ve been treated to the front row seat of just how colossally OnePlus has dropped the ball in terms of the rollout of its Android 11-based OxygenOS 11.

Many of these troubles can be attributed to just how drastic OxygenOS 11 is compared to its predecessors that borrowed a lot of inspiration from stock Android, endearing the operating system to many Android purists.

That said, OnePlus has been working hard over the past few months to iron out all the bugs and issues present in this custom Android skin.

Unfortunately, all this cannot be done at once and the bug-hunting and fixing is a seemingly never-ending process so OnePlus still has a lot on its plate in this regard.

Today, it is coming to light that OnePlus has one more issue on its plate that it needs to address promptly. This, as users of various devices on OxygenOS 11 are reporting issues with their system keyboard, Gboard.

According to a section of users of the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8T, their devices are exhibiting unusual laggy behavior when using the keyboard or navigation gestures.

Great another update and now you’ve messed up my Google keyboard keeps freezing lagging sometimes not appearing at all until I reboot the phone and still no brightness percentage numbers.

Exact same issue for me. Google keyboard constantly freezing and not appearing often, I reboot and I get back for a while. Hate this update. Rendered the phone unusable going to flashback.

As it turns out, this issue that results in system lag is not exclusive to the devices’ keyboard. This, as users (1,2,3,3,4,5) are also reportedly facing the same issue with the navigation bar.

Interestingly, we also found a report from a OnePlus Nord user who was facing the same issue. Also worth noting is that there is also a section of users (1,2,3,4) who aren’t facing any such issues.

This further complicates the situation for OnePlus as the company now has to figure out why these users are facing these lag issues while their counterparts aren’t.
