New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on March 8, 2021) follows:

OnePlus is still struggling to deliver stable builds of Android 11-based OxygenOS 11 to the OnePlus 7 series of devices.

But the company isn’t slacking and so far, we have seen a number of Open Beta builds, latest one being the Open Beta 3 update that brought with it a few important fixes.

Recently, we saw the release of Android 11 stable for the OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7T Pro in China, leaving us to believe that the same treatment awaits the OxygenOS 11 devices soon.

But what exactly is the hold-up? Why is OnePlus struggling to deliver this update to users of the base model OnePlus 7?

The company has been a little stingy with info but we know that the company was facing issues with the Always-on-Display feature even during the initial Open Beta builds.

Despite the reports of the stable release of Android 11-based HydrogenOS 11 to the OnePlus 7T Pro and OnePlus 7 Pro, the OnePlus 7 is yet to bag the Open Beta 3 update.

A scroll through the OnePlus 7 Chinese Community forum reveals a number of frustrated users who are stuck with the second Open Beta build on their devices.

So what is causing this delay? Well, as it turns out, the ugly issue that was Always-on-Display (AOD) is rearing its head once more, hampering OnePlus 7 Android 11 development.

In a comment from a supposed OnePlus staff on the company’s Chinese community forum, the company explains that they’re still working to fix Always-on-Display in the Open Beta 3 build.

If this new AOD revelation is anything to go by, we might see the same delay translated to the stable release of the HydrogenOS 11 build and subsequently, the Android 11-based OxygenOS 11 for the OnePlus 7.

These users have been gawking at the stable release of OxygenOS 11 for months now since the OnePlus 8 bagged the update back in October 2020. For now, the wait is still on.

We shall continue to keep an eye on this and update as and when we get more info so stay tuned to our OnePlus 7 OxygenOS 11 status tracker.

Update 1 (March 11)

IST 13:56 pm: OnePlus has confirmed through a staff member on the community forum that the OxygenOS 11 Open Beta 3 update for the OnePlus 7 is being delayed by an issue with the Always-on-Display feature.

We apologize for the delay, but when we were about to release OBT3 for the OnePlus 7, we noticed there were still AOD-related issues that made the build not meet our standards for Open Beta testing. As a result, this build was held back for the OnePlus 7 and only released for the OnePlus 7 Pro, 7T and 7T Pro.

Meanwhile, the software team has been working hard on this and will release the build as soon as possible. Please stay tuned and thank you for your understanding.
