It is pretty uncommon to see OEMs completely abandon their flagships with just one Android version update or no updates at all but it does happen every once in a while.

For example, in the past, we highlighted the story of Honor Play’s broken promises. The device was popular enough too yet only received one buggy Android update following which it was forgotten like it never even launched.

And now, Xiaomi is seemingly treading the same path as Honor with regards to their flagship grade Mi MIX 3.

We recently covered how its 5G variant is still stuck on Android Pie despite being a flagship device. It has now become the norm of the industry to treat flagships to at least two Android updates – something that Xiaomi has overlooked in this case.

And on top of that, the non-5G MIX 3 has already bagged Android 10 even after being released several months earlier than the MIX 3 5G. Truly a pathetic state of affairs.

But of course, simply an Android 10 update is nothing to settle for in this case and users have been anxiously waiting for news on any new major updates for the device.

Thankfully, a moderator’s comment has now finally shed some new light on the Android 11 update status of the Mi MIX 3. It, unfortunately, isn’t any good news though.

As clear from above, the mod says that they are not too hopeful for an Android 11 update for the Mi MIX 3. This is mainly due to the fact that the device is yet to taste even a beta version of Android 11.

Xiaomi is known to test updates for extended periods prior to a stable global release and hence the lack of a beta program can’t mean anything good.

Heck, the device didn’t even make it to the MIUI 12.5 eligible devices list in both the first and second batches. This truly is quite odd when one takes some other budget devices into account with release dates pretty close to the Mi MIX 3 that are enjoying some pretty active beta programs.

Things weren’t always this bad for the Mi MIX 3 though as there were several hopeful comments previously from mods implying the development of Android 11 for the device.

However, with a non-existent beta testing program for both MIX 3 and MIX 3 5G, it is pretty clear now that neither of the two champs is set to receive any new updates now.

After all, they’ve already crossed the end of their official update support of two years with the non-5G MIX 3 being launched way back in 2018. This capable duo surely didn’t deserve such treatment.

Anyway, for now, be sure to keep an eye on our dedicated Xiaomi Android 11 and MIUI 12.5 update trackers just in case some miracle happens, although we wouldn’t really count on it.
