New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…
Original story (published on March 06, 2021) follows:
Nokia enjoys its fair share in the market with a bunch of smartphones in circulation. The brand also joined the Android 11 club and unveiled a roadmap for its devices.
However, Nokia chose not to get into specifics and only segregated the roadmap in terms of quarters.
Android One-based Nokia devices are acclaimed as great when it comes to the software front but the company hasn’t lived up to the hype (at least in case of the Android 11 release)
As per the company’s own schedule, they had plans to upgrade 9 of its devices to Android 11 between Q4 2020 to Q1 2021. Out of which only the OEM’s flagship device, Nokia 8.3 5G, has managed to bag the update.
The Nokia 1.3, 4.2, 2.3, 2.4, 3.4, 2.2, 8.1, and 5.3 devices should have received the Android 11 update by now, knowing the fact that the Android One Program devices are among the fastest receivers of Google’s Android updates.
Adding more fuel to the fire, the company has cast down Nokia 5.3 and Nokia 2.3 users by releasing a trivial security patch instead of the Android 11 update.
Nokia continues to remain quiet in this regard leaving its users in despair. The rollout plan is highly likely to miss its promised deadline.
Even if Nokia decides to push Android 11 updates to these devices within a month just for the sake of meeting the deadline, there is a high probability that the update may bring a bucket-load of bugs.
At this point, no one is aware of what the company is up to. The social media handles and company executives have no information to reveal.
We have now entered the last month of Q1 and 8 more phones still await their slot. It appears that the OEM has overburdened itself by hanging fire for 5 long months.
But anyway, it’s always better late than never. Nokia should quickly buckle up and begin the rollout process, or at least inform the users about the progress.
We shall continue to closely monitor the developments in Nokia camps and update as soon as any information is available. Also, we have a dedicated Nokia Android 11 update tracker to find all the information related to your device.
