Just when everyone felt that the slew of issues pertaining to MIUI 12 had begun to get smoothed out, Xiaomi brought Android 11 into the picture and seemingly ruined everything.

Aside from the usual petty bugs, there have also been a bunch of performance issues with Android 11. This comes even as several budget devices were already having a hard time keeping up with MIUI 12 based on Android 10.

For example, in the past, we highlighted how Xiaomi was forced to disable Gaussian blurring on many of their budget devices. And now the OEM has seemingly started temporarily removing even more inessential features citing unoptimization, at least on the Redmi Note 9.

Of course, this is all pretty expected given the plethora of feature additions MIUI 12 has seen over the course of a year following its release back in April.

But Android 11 seems to have worsened the situation significantly. Some of the honorable mentions from which there’s still no respite include problems with notifications, gestures, wallpapers and themes, and of course, laggy performance.

Now, minor glitches are tolerable and can be overlooked especially when there’s the hope of them getting fixed soon with future updates. However, it’s the performance issues and lags that one simply can’t get used to no matter what.

After all, they are visible with almost every action be it swiping up to return to the homescreen, opening up the recents, or even scrolling through random apps.

Flagship level offerings have fared better in this regard as MIUI’s lack of optimization is easily compensated by the sheer power of the high-end processors. Cheaper devices don’t have such a luxury though and suffer as a result.

The state is so pitiable that even a Xiaomi community moderator agreed that Android 11 is far from perfect on almost every device. So much so that they were forced to revert to Android 10 just to have a ‘stable build’.

However, there is still light at the end of the tunnel because MIUI 12.5 is just around the corner for eligible devices. The update claims to reduce CPU usage by 22% and power consumption by 15%.

It is also expected to improve animation smoothness significantly due to the implementation of ‘prioritized gesture rendering’ that apparently creates a dedicated thread to render gestures.

Hence, if MIUI 12.5 truly lives up to its tall claims, then Xiaomi users are definitely in for a treat. If you are interested in its status for your device, then be sure to go through our dedicated tracker for the same.

For now, there isn’t much to do apart from waiting as there is virtually no way to work around most of the issues.
