New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on February 15, 2021) follows:

Motorola is on the verge of wrapping up the Android 10 rollout for its devices and recently also released the update to Android 11 for the Motorola G Pro — a.k.a Motorola G Stylus in the U.S.

Both these smartphones share the same hardware, however, the Motorola G Pro is part of the Android One program while the Motorola G Stylus comes with the standard — close to stock Android — skin from Motorola.

Another similarity between them is that both devices came with Android 10 pre-installed and Motorola had earlier confirmed that the two will get the update to Android 11.

And at the time of writing, the Android 11 update is apparently only available for the Motorola G Pro. As noted earlier, this is most likely due to the device being part of the Android One program.

Making matters worse, the company did not offer any details as to when users can expect to get the update in its initial announcement. Therefore, the status of Android 11 for the Motorola G Stylus is unknown.

Now it appears that an individual has managed to get Android 11 up and running on the Motorola G Stylus by flashing the stock Android 11 ROM for the Motorola G Pro manually on the device.

Since the two phones share the same internals, there should be no harm by doing this. Moreover, the individual also confirmed that the ROM runs smoother than other Android 11-based custom ROMs.

Of course, if you can wait for the update to roll out officially for your Motorola G Stylus, we’d suggest holding off. However, those who don’t mind tinkering with their devices can go ahead with the procedure.

You will have to unlock the bootloader on your device for this to work. So back up all your files on the device to avoid any data loss. We’ve shared the download link below:

  • Device: Motorola G Pro/Stylus
  • Android version: 11
  • Channel: Stable
  • Type: Recovery
  • Codename: sofiap

Once you’ve downloaded the ROM, head here to find the detailed instructions to install or flash the Android 11 ROM on your Motorola G Stylus.

Meanwhile, you can stay tuned to our dedicated tracker to know when the update starts rolling out for all eligible devices from the company.
