Oppo, like many other Android OEMs, has been hard at work over the past few months, building, testing and rolling out various builds of its Android 11 custom skin, ColorOS 11.
We have been closely following the development of this skin and you can check out our dedicated ColorOS 11 tracker and the Android 11 tracker that covers the broader rollout of this new Android version.
Recently, we saw the company publishing its plan for how it intends to roll out various Android 11 stable and beta builds to eligible devices, at least for the month of January.
True to the company’s plan, we have seen a few eligible devices getting these builds and you can check out more on this in our Oppo Android 11 tracker.
One of the devices that is eligible for an update to this build is the Oppo A9. The device was first unveiled back in April 2020 and is powered by the MediaTek Helio P70.
The device ran Android 9-based ColorOS 6 out of the box and has since been updated to run Android 10-based ColorOS 7.1.
Well, today, users of this device are in luck as apparently, Oppo is rolling out Android 11-based ColorOS 11 to their Oppo A9 devices. When responding to a user query, ColorOS’ Global Twitter handle confirmed this.
Hi, Karan. The ColorOS 11 official version based on Android 11 update for OPPO A9 has been released. Please go to Settings > Software update to get the official update. Thanks!

Unfortunately, there are a bunch of users that, despite running the latest Android 10 builds on their devices, are still unable to update their devices to this released Android 11 build.
This could be a case of Oppo rolling out this Android 11 to Oppo A9 devices in phases according to their regions so users might want to sit tight and keep checking for the OTA notification.
This Oppo A9 should not be confused with the Oppo A9 2020 as that device’s update to Android 11-based ColorOS 11 is slated for sometime in the second quarter of 2021. More on that here.
We shall continue to keep an eye on this Android 11 update for the Oppo A9 and update as and when we get more info so stay tuned.
